Advanced Math Instructor at ASFA

Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA)

Title: TEACHER-Advanced Math: Geometry and beyond in Math & Science Specialty program

Reports to: Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Job Goal: To help gifted students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor or Master Degree in Mathematics and/or Master Degree in Secondary Mathematics from an accredited college or university. Experience in teaching gifted students. 3-5 years’ experience in secondary mathematics teaching.

Desired:

Master degree or beyond in Mathematics from an accredited college or university. National Board Certification in Adolescence & Young Adulthood Mathematics. Alabama Teacher’s Certificate.

Able to teach high school and college level math courses which include but are not limited to Honors Algebra II/Trig, Stats, Calculus I, II, III, and/or Differential Equations, Abstract Algebra, and Linear Algebra

Technological proficiency, including advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

Minimal programming experience (example: HTML, Alice, Scratch, etc.)

Able to teach research principals to students participating in science and engineering fairs

Energetic, dedicated, and passionate about working with talented adolescents

Team player in group discussions and decisions

 

Performance Responsibilities:

Determines individual and class needs; establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.

Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time and meet objectives.

Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.

Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.

Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.

Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.

Maintains and submits records and reports.

Supports the mission and goals of the school.

Integrates instructional technologies into the classroom

Works with Student Support Services to facilitate learning in all areas of the student’s life.

Collaborates with colleagues on teams, both in the classroom and the professional learning community

Works with all other instructors to facilitate flexible test dates and class attendance to benefit students.

Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board, state and federal rules and regulations.

Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.

Utilizes and communicates with internal technology such as, e-mail, grade reporting, etc.

Attends and provides adult leadership and support for school performances and other school and student functions.

 

Additional Extra-Curricular Responsibilities:

Participates in ASFA Open House events.

Assists in the planning/implementing/working in the ASFA Math Tournament.

Coaches and chaperones the following Math competitions:

-        In/out-of-town math tournaments, State written math contest, Mu Alpha Theta National Convention, etc.

Participates/works in the following M/S specialty program events:

-        ASFA Senior Research Symposium, Math & Science In/Out-reach

 

Salary: Salary Schedule Based on Degree and Experience

Service Term:    Nine Months
