GSSM seeks an exceptional Chemistry instructor to start by August 2017. Applicants should have a Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred, and a love of teaching.  Desired qualifications include a strong content background in Chemistry and experience in teaching Chemistry at college or advanced high school levels, knowledge and application of technology, an understanding of gifted learners, enthusiasm for teaching motivated and talented high-school-aged students and an ability to advise students in the completion of senior research projects.  General academic advising, committee meetings, student activity advising, and occasional evening/weekend commitments are a regular part of faculty responsibilities.

STUDENT LIFE ADVISOR (Start Date: January 2, 2017 or When Filled)

The primary duty of the Student Life Advisor (SLA) is to create and maintain a positive living/learning environment for the students in their care. Each SLA works independently with his/her group of students (approximately 30-40 students) and collectively with the other staff to ensure that student care, development, and safety needs are met.

In addition to programming responsibilities, SLAs who enjoy being involved in many aspects of campus life can elect to sponsor clubs and student organizations or to serve on various campus networks. SLAs can also plan or chaperone social or educational off-campus trips.

Specific responsibilities include supervising the student sign-out process, conducting nightly room checks to assure that all students are accounted for in the building, conducting weekly room-inspection, transporting students as needed (in school vehicles), enforcing policies, and planning and implementing social and educational programming. At times SLAs may need to dispense over-the-counter or prescription medication or provide other medical care, for which training is provided.

Additional on-the-job training, including CPR/AED and first aid training, will be provided. SLAs interested in additional professional development opportunities can apply for funding to attend conferences and workshops in line with their work and career goals.

This is a full-time, live-in position and compensation includes room, meal plan, and all benefits afforded to Louisiana State employees including, medical insurance and participation in the Louisiana State Teachers' Retirement plan.

English Instructor at LSMSA

Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA)

Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts is the preeminent state-supported residential high school with competitive admissions for Louisiana's high-achieving, highly-motivated sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Ranked by Niche in 2016 as the nation's top-ranked high school faculty, all full-time faculty hold advanced degrees in the subject area in which they teach, 70 percent hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree (e.g. MFA). Half the faculty has at least 10 years of teaching experience at LSMSA; eight faculty members have served more than 20years. LSMSA faculty meet accreditation standards set by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for undergraduate college faculty.

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts invites applications for a full-time teaching position in the English department, beginning in August 2017.   The position includes all benefits of state employment.  Qualifications include a Ph.D. in English (A.B.D. considered), and an interest in working with bright your people.  Duties include teaching composition, with a secondary area of specialization open.  A background in British Literature is especially desirable.  Faculty teach a five-class load (MWF and/or T/TR) with a maximum class size of 15.

French Instructor at LSMSA

Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA)

The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts seeks applicants for a French Instructor, with employment starting August 2017. This is a fulltime position with all the benefits of state employment.

The successful candidate will be able to teach four levels of collegiate, accelerated French curriculum, with the potential of additional coursework in a second language as student interests and instructor credentials allow.). In addition to teaching students in a small class setting, the successful candidate must be innovative, able to engage students from varying backgrounds, and to prepare them for successful learning once at LSMSA.  The candidate must be willing to use office hours to tutor and assist students.  The ability to mentor students and assist in their research is key to long-term success and satisfaction.
